I have a girlfriend and she’s amazing. Let’s call her Type A.

Type A is gorgeous, smart, funny and loyal. She doesn’t need a man to buy her car, she owns her own. Type A has a flourishing career and a boss that loves her. Not only does she have a retirement plan, she can also shop like a champ. She also has a passion for life.

Did I mention she can pay for her own damn meal, as well as her date’s?

Did I mention she paid for an outing and all the guys were like, “Damn, why did you pay? You are supposed to let the guys pay.You just made me feel like a girl”.

What caught my attention was, “You just made me feel like a girl”.

I once read an article a while back and it really made me think think about “traditional” gender roles, or better yet how we as a society now view traditional gender roles. As time progresses, the income gap between men and women is slowly closing. Women are now making the same, if not more than men.

But if a woman can out- achieve a man in all the areas that he can quantify his manhood (rephrased from article): ie; home ownership, job title, income, education, labels, and etc. Would that intimidate you as a male?

Studies also now show that men of our generation are helping out more with housework, more so than previous generations. So putting everything together with more women becoming breadwinners and males cleaning up, what do you think is going on with our “antiquated” gender roles?

From the looks of it Webbie and Neyo don’t seem to mind independent women.
