Ms. Independent

Oct 11, 2008 Author: Susy Hwang | Filed under: Ramblings

I have a girlfriend and she’s amazing. Let’s call her Type A.

Type A is gorgeous, smart, funny and loyal. She doesn’t need a man to buy her car, she owns her own. Type A has a flourishing career and a boss that loves her. Not only does she have a retirement plan, she can also shop like a champ. She also has a passion for life.

Did I mention she can pay for her own damn meal, as well as her date’s?

Did I mention she paid for an outing and all the guys were like, “Damn, why did you pay? You are supposed to let the guys pay.You just made me feel like a girl”.

What caught my attention was, “You just made me feel like a girl”.

I once read an article a while back and it really made me think think about “traditional” gender roles, or better yet how we as a society now view traditional gender roles. As time progresses, the income gap between men and women is slowly closing. Women are now making the same, if not more than men.

But if a woman can out- achieve a man in all the areas that he can quantify his manhood (rephrased from article): ie; home ownership, job title, income, education, labels, and etc. Would that intimidate you as a male?

Studies also now show that men of our generation are helping out more with housework, more so than previous generations. So putting everything together with more women becoming breadwinners and males cleaning up, what do you think is going on with our “antiquated” gender roles?

From the looks of it Webbie and Neyo don’t seem to mind independent women.

Black and White French Tips and Other Beauty Tips

Oct 10, 2008 Author: Susy Hwang | Filed under: Advice, Beauty & Health, Kayden

  • Cutting back on manicures and pedicures? Wanna try something fun? Black and white striped french mani/ pedis. Check it out Kayden.
  • Oily? Forgot your compact? Need a blotting paper? Did you know that toilet seat covers are great to use as blotting papers? Just make sure you grab a new seat cover.
  • Want flirty braids? Miss Chic Geek shows us how.
  • Don’t have time to wash your hair? Is it oily? Does it smell like the dinner (ahem Korean BBQ)? Sprinkle some baby powder at the roots and blend (with a brush/ hands). The best way to disperse the powder it to grab the baby powder bottle upright and squeeze the bottle in shallow little spurts, you want a light mist of powder to float up, not a huge baby powder cloud. Nice and easy (only apply more powder if necessary). Coat your roots lightly and the powder will absorb the oil and leave your hair smelling fresh. Applying too powder much will make your hair appear gray and the powder may clump.

Mila Kunis has played; Jackie from that 70’s show (and Rachel from Forgetting Sarah Marshall).

It’s safe to say Macaulay Caulkin is not Home Alone. He’s one lucky guy.
