Just in case you were wondering, I had to save this picture under “Random”.

It is just that time of the month… The time I want to get in deep with the beef on the cheap. Tell me that there are 3 broth flavors to chose from and the meat is cheap; and you will find me swishing the night away.

Swishing the night away saying, “Gimme Gimme More, Gimme More. Gimme Gimme”.

Kami Shabu is hidden on the second floor of the (former) Cosmos Plaza in the heart of Koreatown. Park on the street if you want to avoid paying the valet a few dollars.

Kami Shabu serves shabu shabu with a Korean flair, more flavorful than it’s Japanese counterpart. Each person gets his or her own pot, which is great because Kami has many options to chose from. Kami Shabu has quite a few stews for under $8, the infamous budae jigae (canned meat spicy army style stew), dumplings, seafood options, spicy beef stew, and spicy seafood stew.

So the meat and seafood shabu shabu menu has a whole bunch of prices that can seem daunting for those that cannot read Korean. But here it goes:

Beef & Seafood shabu shabu (Lunch price w/ regular vegetables): Med $10.99 and Large $12.99

Beef & Seafood shabu shabu (Dinner price w/ regular vegetables): Med $12.99 and Large $14.99

Beef & Seafood shabu shabu (Lunch price w/ mushroom medley): Med $12.99 and Large $14.99

Beef & Seafood shabu shabu (Dinner price w/ mushroom medley): Med $14.99 and Large $16.99

*The shabu shabu doesn’t come with banchans.

* However, the stews come with side dishes.

For the optimal variety of food at the cheapest price I would suggest ordering a large shabu shabu and a stew.

Kami shabu is the place for cheap shabu shabu.

The name of this restaurant always has me thinking of Pamela Anderson and her barbed wire arm tattoo. Luckily, the food at Barbrix is fabulous.

This quaint little addition to Silver Lake is a very low key tapas style restaurant and bar. Barbrix is perfect for a casual first date and casual outings with friends. Barbrix is in a renovated home which is tucked towards the back of an obscure parking lot.

In other words, it was darned hard to find. We had passed Barbrix 3 times before finding it.

Finding Barbrix was almost as hard as the coconuts that fell on Gilligan’s head. Ginger and Mary Anne proved to be distracting, even the Professor couldn’t find away to get off the island.

But really Barbrix is on the same side (and across the street from that ”boat“), Barbrix is north of Tracey.

No really it is. Just pull into the teeny tiny obscure parking lot entrance and tada! You can now start your three hour dinner.

Glasses of wine range from $6-10 dollars and the cheapest bottle starts at $21. Not bad. Just don’t drink and steer your ship onto an iceberg.

From June 1st through 8th, local foodies and visitors can indulge in the best of Old Pasadena’s award-winning restaurants, and help feed those in need at the first ever Old Pasadena Restaurant Week. More than 25 of Old Pasadena’s finest restaurants have joined together to offer you several delicious options for three-course lunch and dinner menus at one great fixed price.

10% of event proceeds will benefit Union Station Homeless Services, celebrating 35 years of helping those in need.

A confirmed list of participating restaurants appears below. Please contact the restaurant directly for your reservation and any additional information. Check back shortly for more menu updates.
